It was my honor to take my best friend for her first ever concert for her birthday and I regret nothing but the tickets were $1,200. Matroda rocked but I was shocked to find that people started camping outside of the entrance more than 24 hours prior to the concert. With gear. Camped outside waiting for a chance to see HIM, sleeping on concrete 24+ hours.
But TWELVE HUNDRED DOLLARS?! We sat in the last row at the very tippy top. (Not a bad seat in the house) It was extra interesting watching techs working in the catwalks as well as the show.
Typical show for me: $10 show, I promote for months by telling everyone, 7-12 audience members I adore the show, $15-$40 parking, $100+ sound engineer, $15+ parking, $75+ per band member (varies), tips evenly split between players.
Harry Style merch: T-shirts $40+, hoodie $80+, $40 tote (bought it) was that or $20 rubber bands (4).
My merch: $5 car sticker, $20 album, $10 pins, $20 shirt & I’ll write whatever on it for free.
Matroda & everyone involved (especially the percussion & tambourine guy, killed it) were amazing, have my recommendation but man I’d love for my fans to support me even 30% of the way his fans support him.
On the way out, an Uber driver said he was open and as we approached, told us it’s a bare minimum $100. We walked 7 blocks to a less congested traffic area & called an Uber. Trying to save money, we drove into Austin & parked at a friend’s store & ubered 3.9 miles to the show, $60 both ways.
Reminds me when mom told she took all 5 of us to Sears for photos. Mom said they were looking at the cheapest proofs (eyes closed, blinks etc). The ones where all 5 are smiling were out of our budget so she got the cheaper ones and while she paid, she watched them shred the photos they had already printed to show my mother.
I would love to see an opera or the Austin Orchestra but it’s not in the budget. It’s strange to be oddly alienated by the community you love and continually ask to attend shows because we don’t have large enough audiences to generate enough extra income to do things such as go to an opera.
Matroda, I completely respect you & your craft, incredibly talented & charming. I can’t afford you. We can’t afford you. The people working in the same industry as you can’t compete on a realistic level & feel the attendance lessen when magnet concerts come to town. How about this, me to open for you on a tour and I’ll think about it lol wouldn’t that be a dream, to open. Wouldn’t that be the day?
